Horses, family and freedom in the Valle de Romanzado

Since 1992

Three decades in the same valley, with the same values

We are a family from the Valle de Romanzado who have been caring for horses and guiding riders through the trails around the Foz de Arbayún since 1992. What started as a passion in the small village of Usún is still exactly that: something personal, unhurried, and true to its roots.

Over thirty years we have learnt that the best way to work with horses is to let them be horses. We have seen generations of riders come and go, and watched foals grow into seasoned veterans of the valley.

How we do things

No spurs, no bit, no shortcuts

Trato respetuoso y sin bocado con los caballos en el Club Hípico Arbayún

We use Dr. Kook halters and no bits. Our horses are not production tools — they are individuals with their own character, history and needs. Respect for the animal is not a slogan here; it is the reason we keep doing this.

All our horses live semi-wild, in a herd, with plenty of space to move. That herd life is what makes them balanced, safe and enjoyable for the riders who go out with us.

Our horses stay forever

Many of ours have spent years — decades, some of them — going out through the gorge. When the time comes to retire, we do not sell them or move them elsewhere: they stay in the valley, with the rest of the herd, for good. For us, that is an obligation, not a choice.

Between two gorges and a valley you will not forget

The club is in Usún, in the heart of the Valle de Romanzado. Ten minutes away you have the Foz de Lumbier gorge, and ten minutes further, the Foz de Arbayún — the longest river gorge in Spain. Two of the most spectacular natural landscapes in Navarre, both within reach of our door. Above it all rises Arangoiti, and the Salazar river runs alongside much of the routes.

Frequently asked questions

Not always. We have activities for every level, from rides designed for people who have never been on a horse to gallop routes for experienced riders. If you are not sure what suits you, write to us before booking and we will point you in the right direction.
Yes. We take things calmly and without rushing, and we start with a simple explanation before setting off. Our horses live in a herd and semi-wild, which makes them balanced and safe, and we adapt the pace to how you are feeling.
We assign it ourselves, taking into account your experience, your build and each horse's character. Every horse is an individual with its own personality, and our aim is for rider and horse to be a good match so you feel comfortable and safe.
Nothing extra to learn on your part: the guide explains how to communicate with the horse naturally. We use Dr. Kook halters instead of a bit and do without spurs because horses respond better to trust than to pressure.
Yes. We have an introductory activity for the youngest riders, from age 3, in which an adult can walk alongside the horse throughout. For the rides and routes the minimum age varies by activity, so check each one or just ask us.
It is rare: our horses know these routes inside out and, living in a herd and semi-wild, they are balanced animals. You are also always accompanied by a guide who knows each horse and how to keep the ride calm.
